Slightly messy but rather red SKULL…recently seen in Bali…

It’s a fairly humid Thursday in the tropical North of Australia, and so far all I have done today has been related one way or other to SHOES. Which is good. Which is necessary. Which makes a lot of sense in the context of this year’s BIG MASSIVE GOAL….Launching IDEAL HUSBAND. For real. I have been saying it for a while now, anticipating to do it December…no, February…maybe March? Life and all its ceremonial obligations got in the way…add to this the vanishing of long-term fellow shoemakers, and one might be able to glimpse a bit of the seemingly never-ending challenges while pursuing my vision….

Some of you might recall my little stories around Echem with whom I started my journey…he is no longer part of it…I have the odd beautifully crafted sample shoe with rather delicate stitching made by him, utterly delightful to contemplate… Sometimes it strikes me as odd that a person I have worked with for more than a year (and it has been REAL WORK, folks!!), and finally reached that level of understanding (well, maybe?!) simply disappears…I think he might be doing bags now…or getting married, hopefully both. Not that I have too much time on my hands these days to dwell over those matters…after some really upsetting times trying to find other skilled people to work with, it all has happened…and they all have better parking spots than Echem….which is definitely something to be happy about! All of you who have spent any time in Asia amongst that roaring dragon called traffic will know the ultimate bliss and relative safety of a little piece of almost horizontal space where you can stop  your little metal work horse for a moment without the fear of being run over by 398475 fellow metal horse riders and their big brothers in big metal trucks…ahhh.

I love RED. Simply no other way to say it. If there is one color I had to restrict myself to, guess that would be it. RRRREDDDDD. But none of that wussy, depressing maroon color, or any of the immediately nausea inducing catholic reds…nor something slightly sickening like burgundy…not sure what it is with that shade, but I rather not go there. EVER. I get mortifying visions of smelly, dusty and never aired rooms with curtains in those shades…or sofas…stiff and dead and nasty. I think you get the point. Not a big burgundy fan.

On the other hand……delightful, vibrant TOMATO red….CHERRY red….TRUE red, HAPPY red, STRONG and FEISTY red…I do remember living in Melbourne for a while (how can I ever forget? Never been as cold in my life! People down there seem to think that heaters are not needed in this part of ‘lucky’ Australia…oh, so wrong they are!), and all I could possibly do apart from not being there was wearing RED…for that illusion of a morsel of a fraction of a whisper of a bit of extra warmth….from head to toe, all read. Riding along in my first vintage car with the delightful RED interior…which certainly helped the under-performing heater in that car kick-start into action, I am sure of it…

These days, I make shoes. RED shoes. Or black shoes with RED lining….LAPISAN in bahasa, just to let you know that finally I have been able to squeeze in the odd shoe related vocabulary into my aging brain. LAPISAN MERAH, thank you very much. MAKASI, I mean. RED LINING, people! I used to be pretty good in the language department, all those centuries ago…but now it certainly looks like that after mountains of clunky German words,  A LOT of English muffles and snuffels, some sleek and sinewy French and the odd token Russian grunt my ability to be a human sponge looks a bit dried up, sadly…just another thing to better not dwell onto for too long….so we are moving on and forward (!) while going a tad backwards, as well…here is pre Ideal Husband shoe made in a feeble attempt to fence off the Melbourne cold…as if!

So. Mission accomplished. Talked A LOT about RED. ROSSO. ROT.ROUGE. MEHRA. Forgot the Russian one…RRRROOOT maybe…

Now it’s time for me to adjust a pattern, and in case of left-over energy, maybe attempting to work on a newish idea for some sandals…mhmmhh.

Shall leave you with another picture not surprisingly with a focus on something RED…another impression from our recent photo session, and still a photo not yet edited apart from some cropping just for this blog…I NEED A CLONE (dressed in RED) to help with all those bits and pieces on my endless list….sigh. Enjoy the rest of your week, ALMOST WEEKEND….have some fabulous RED MOMENTS, everyone – if possible. And for those interested in more shoes, check out the mob behind www.atheistberlin.com!
