I have always loved pears. BIRNEN, as we Germans call them. Not sure whether anyone but those Germans remember, but we even had a prime minister / chancellor called BIRNE…without doubt, his head did have a fruit-shaped appearance, but what looked good on the real deal, looked just odd on him…apart from his overall demeanour which made it simply impossible for me to consider him anything but just another political nuisance. Not as bad as the current racist joker posing in the role of Australian counterpart…but let’s not go there. Trying to keep this Sunday as un-polluted as possible…
Which brings us back to FRUIT. And the quiet but undeniable joy FRUIT can bring visually…those shapes! And colours! Then there is the smell…fresh strawberries…and tomatoes (sort of fruit…well). One wants to avoid jackfruit here, of course. Unbelievable, that smell. Beyond disgusting, in my books…but pears? Those lumpy, funny shaped mostly greenish blobs? Not even that fragrant, really, until you cut them open for consumption…and comfort, of course.
I have been through the wringer over the last 12 months…with an extra bit of squeezing over the last 6…right now, things are fine. We are back on track, so to speak…even back on shoe track! Currently contemplating heading back into production as I have found a possible partner whose quality standards are equally high and demanding…fingers crossed, it is early days, but by early next year those Ideal Husbands might be up and running again…or maybe elegantly carousing around the globe, of course.
Throughout my various moves…I have been eating PEARS.
Losing part of my sanity while motor biking around Bali…imported PEARS waiting next to incense at the house.
When I lost my appetite … Somehow still eating one PEAR at a time.
Losing Bruno and being swamped with grief … My stable companion, a green PEAR.
Living in an assortment of houses and places … Getting those PEARS on the kitchen counter for that feeling of home.
And now back in more long-term living spaces, I have a rather fabulous metal fruit bowl brimming with…PEARS, of course. The odd avocado and mango is tolerated, but nervousness sets in if I am down to one or two of my green friends…so time to hit the road, get to the market and invite another 5 or 8 or 11 fruity companions into my tropical home…spreading their non-tropical charm.
And they go well with shoes, of course.
Today is the last Sunday and day of the month…and my last chance to get my November blog sorted, adding a shoemaker to the mix as well…I know I have mentioned him before, and here I am doing it again… Alexander McQueen, a very talented designer who took his life in 2010. Check out his website (his former assistant Sarah Burton has taken over the reigns and the brand is going strong, I believe) for some infusion of creativity and design…
Looking forward to some serious shoe work starting to happen very soon again…and I leave you with just another PEAR…topping Ideal Husband CORDOBA in a truly fruity fashion…have a great week everyone!
